Tern opens its largest sorting hub yet in Rotterdam

Rotterdam has always been the hinge of our European network. From today, it is also our largest single facility — 38,000 square metres of automated sorting, cross-dock and customs bonding, ten minutes from the deep-sea terminals.

The hub runs 214 robotic sorting cells arranged around a central spine, a layout that cuts internal travel distance for a parcel by 40 percent compared with our previous generation. At full ramp it will process 1.2 million parcels a day with a misroute rate below 0.02 percent.

Rotterdam is also the first Tern facility to run entirely on shore power and rooftop solar, with battery buffering for the evening sort. The building gives back more energy to the grid in summer than it draws in winter.

For customers, the practical change is simple: cut-off times for next-day delivery into the Benelux move two hours later, and ocean-to-door transit for Asia imports drops by a full day.
